Sally Face 2 is in active development at Portable Moose and has been named publicly since December 2021, when Steve Gabry said he had hoped to start production that year. Development proper began in 2024, hiring followed through 2025, and the reveal came on 16 August 2026. No release date has been announced at any point in those five years.
The sequel did not appear from nowhere in August 2026. Portable Moose had been mentioning it in year-in-review posts, ordinary patch notes and hiring ads for nearly five years before the reveal — which is also the clearest evidence available about how far along it is.

The Steam store page opens for wishlisting
The store page added the Early Access Q&A, the supported operating systems, the system requirements and the English-only language list to the public record. It also revealed that Early Access begins with Episode Six. The release date stayed "To be announced."
The sequel is revealed on the original game's 10th anniversary
Portable Moose announced Sally Face 2 during a live anniversary stream and published the Official Teaser the same day. The press kit went up with the release date given as TBD and Steam Early Access named as the first release.
The sequel is confirmed as still the studio's main priority
Announcing a board-game Kickstarter, Steve Gabry added that Sally Face 2 "has remained main priority and is coming along very nicely" — the last progress statement before the reveal, and the clearest evidence that the crowdfunding campaign in search results belongs to the tabletop game, not the sequel.

Two artists join, and the studio addresses release rumours directly
Artists Katy and Emily joined, taking Sally Face 2 from a solo project to a team of four. The same post answered the rumours head-on: "I've seen rumors circulating about release times. Please only trust information straight from official Portable Moose channels. There is no release window at this time."
Applications open for Sally Face 2 artists
The studio publicly recruited full-time remote 2D artists able to match the Sally Face style. A staffing signal, not a schedule one — no date, platform or scope was attached.
Portable Moose makes its first hire
Steve Gabry announced that programmer Mike Thomas had joined the studio and listed Sally Face 2 among the projects he would work on — the studio acting on the plan to stop working alone that it had described three years earlier.
A year of slow progress, and a stated refusal to estimate
The 2024 recap reported more work done on Sally Face 2 but described progress as slow alongside other projects, and said hiring would happen in 2025. It also set the studio's position on dates: "I don't like to give release estimates until I have a time frame I'm more confident with."
Portable Moose names the sequel for the first time
In its 2021 year-in-review, the studio wrote that it had "hoped to start production on Sally Face 2 this year" but had been delayed. A first-draft script existed, and Steve Gabry said he wanted to contract work out rather than repeat the original's five-year solo development.
What the timeline actually tells you
Read together, those entries say something the announcement coverage mostly missed.
It has been a known project since 2021, and slow by the studio’s own account. The sequel was named in a year-in-review three and a half years before the first hire, with a first-draft script already written and production repeatedly pushed back. The 2024 recap describes progress as slow alongside other projects.
The studio grew specifically to speed it up. Portable Moose was one person for most of the original game’s life, and Gabry said outright in 2021 that he wanted to contract work out rather than spend another five years alone. The first hire landed in April 2025, artists were recruited in June, and two more had joined by November — every one of those posts names Sally Face 2 as the reason.
Nothing about the schedule has ever been stated, and that is a stated policy. In five years of updates there has never been a release date, a named console or a price. In the 2024 recap the studio explained why: it does not give release estimates until it has a timeframe it is confident about.
The release shape was decided before the release date. By the time the store page went up, Portable Moose had settled the episodic structure, the Early Access route and the starting episode number — but still published “To be announced” in the date field.
- How it will be updatedConfirmed
Instead of the usual Early Access pattern of feature updates and content packs, Portable Moose plans to release the game one episode at a time.

What does not go on this timeline
Only statements from Portable Moose itself — its site, its press kit, its Steam announcements and its YouTube channel — become entries here. Three things that people do ask about, and where they stand:
Community speculation. Reddit and Discord threads are useful for working out what people want answered. They are not evidence, and none of them has ever produced a date. Portable Moose has said as much itself: after seeing “rumors circulating about release times” in late 2025, the studio asked people to “only trust information straight from official Portable Moose channels,” and stated flatly that there was no release window at that time.
Press articles. Several outlets covered the reveal, and a few described the platform plan more confidently than Portable Moose ever did. Where a report and a primary source disagree, this site follows the primary source.
The board game. Sally Face: Strange Nightmares and its Corruption expansion are real Portable Moose projects with real Kickstarter campaigns, and they are the reason “Sally Face 2 Kickstarter” returns results. They have nothing to do with the video game, which is not crowdfunded.
- CrowdfundingConfirmed
No crowdfunding campaign for the Sally Face 2 video game has ever been announced. The campaigns that surface under this name are for Sally Face: Strange Nightmares, a separate tabletop game — Portable Moose announced its Corruption expansion in May 2026 and, in the same post, described the sequel as a distinct project still in development.
