New

Big Ambitions is Hovgaard Games' New York business sim. It left Early Access on 28 August 2026 after three and a half years, and it is single-player only — the seventh neighbourhood, The Hamptons, and a private driver came with 1.0.

You start at eighteen in your parents’ apartment in downtown New York with an empty bank account. From there the game is one long question about what to do next: take a job, rent a unit, stock it, hire someone to stand behind the counter, and decide whether the money goes into a second shop, a warehouse, a factory, or a penthouse.

Hovgaard Games put it into Early Access on 10 March 2023 and shipped 1.0 on 28 August 2026 — three and a half years, and a launch weekend that set a new concurrent-player record for the game at over 12,000. It is Windows and macOS, on Steam, and single-player only: Steam lists no co-op or multiplayer category, and there is no online mode to find.

Where it stands

Players Peaked above 12,000 concurrent over launch weekend, a record for the game
Modes Single-player. No co-op or online mode, and none on the published roadmap

What this section covers

This section was started in the first week of 1.0, and that shapes what is worth writing down. The general “how do I make money” guides were filled in within seventy-two hours of release by sites that have never opened the game. What was not written down is the part that changes weekly:

  • Which version you are on, and what each build changed — Hovgaard numbers patches by build, not by point release, which is why searching for “1.0.1” finds nothing.
  • The Workshop mod scene — every notable mod with its subscriber count and, more usefully, whether the author has touched it since 1.0 shipped. Including the one that adds multiplayer to a game that does not have it.
  • What Hovgaard has actually committed to next — taken from the studio’s own Living Roadmap rather than from wishlists: two free content updates, then a Shanghai DLC.
  • The first hour — the order the game expects you to do things in, which the tutorial only half explains.
  • Two tools built from the community’s own data — an item finder that answers “which store sells this” with the neighbourhood first, and a factory planner that turns a product into a machine count and a shopping list grouped by importer.

What 1.0 brought

The launch build was not a version bump on the last Early Access patch. From Hovgaard’s own pre-release rundown and launch post:

Added in 1.0 Detail
The Hamptons A seventh neighbourhood — mostly residential, with a small luxury retail strip and mansions you can buy, some in gated communities with a private dock
Private driver Contract Onyx Luxury Chauffeurs, leave a vehicle in their garage, and summon a driver instead of hunting for a taxi
Speedy Bites Food delivery to any home or business, and a way to earn early cash by making the deliveries yourself
Banking Negative interest removed; loans need more income and carry higher rates, but Vantander lends more and takes partial payments
Taxes Rebalanced with more deductions, a 10% late fee, partial payments, and an estimate for next year inside Econoview
Minigames Brick Breaker on your home computer, plus a golf driving range and a tennis court once you own a Hamptons home

The one thing to know before loading an old save: 1.0 is where the Early Access game ends and the finished one starts, and the patch tracker is where we record every build after it.
