GamePrimer EditorialUpdated Verified

Yes. Big Ambitions has had native Steam Workshop support since Early Access 0.11 in June 2026 — no third-party mod loader, no manual file copying. Subscribe on the Workshop and the game loads it. The table below says which mods their authors have touched since 1.0 shipped.

Hovgaard added mod support in the last Early Access update before 1.0, and was explicit about what that changed: “No more third-party add-ons just to load the mod.” The Workshop is wired into the game, there is a sample Unity mod pack for creators, and finished mods go up through an in-game uploader.

That timing matters when you are reading a mod list in the first weeks after 1.0. Almost every mod on the Workshop was built against an Early Access game — of the 29 below, only two were created after 28 August. The most useful column is not the subscriber count. It is the date.

The mods

29 mods, ranked by subscribers within each group. 18 of them have been updated since 1.0 shipped.

Reading that last column

A green dot means the author last published on 28 August — the day 1.0 shipped — or later. A grey dot means the last version went up before that day, while the game was still in Early Access.

One mod was last published on 28 August itself. Steam timestamps Workshop updates to the second, but it never published the hour 1.0 went live — so nothing available settles which side of the release that update landed on. It sits in the green group, and the label says “since release” rather than “after release” for exactly that reason.

This is a fact about the mod’s publishing history, not a compatibility guarantee — the only way to know a mod works in your game is to run it. But it is the closest thing to a signal that exists, and it is the one thing a scraped mod list cannot tell you. Some authors say it outright in the title: three of the mods above carry an [UPDATED 1.0] prefix, and one calls itself “1.0 Compatible”.

Three things that confuse people

The second most-subscribed mod does nothing on its own. LIB BA Player Location sits near the top of the whole Workshop and adds no gameplay whatsoever. It is a shared library that other mods depend on, as are LIB BA Unified UI and John’s Smartphone. If you subscribed to one because it was near the top of the list and nothing happened, that is why — they are grouped separately above for exactly this reason.

The Workshop is mostly not mods. Sort it by subscribers and roughly three quarters of the top items are blueprints — saved interior layouts for one specific building, tagged with the building code they fit (A1, M1, K1, C1, I1, B1, N1). Blueprints are not mods and do not appear in a mod list; they load through the game’s Blueprints panel and only work in a building of the matching code. If what you actually want is a ready-made shop layout, that is the half of the Workshop to browse.

There is a multiplayer mod, and the base game has no multiplayer. Going Public runs a shared city so several players can build in the same New York. Steam lists Big Ambitions as single-player only, and there is nothing about multiplayer anywhere on Hovgaard’s roadmap — the studio last spoke about co-op in a 2021 devlog, calling it a post-release dream. Everything multiplayer about this game today is community-built.

Installing one

  1. Open the Big Ambitions Workshop and subscribe to the item you want. Steam downloads it alongside the game.
  2. Check whether the item’s page lists another mod as required. Anything in the libraries group above exists to be required by something else — subscribing to the dependent mod without its library is the usual reason a mod appears to do nothing.
  3. Blueprints go in through the Blueprints panel in-game and need a building with the matching code. Opening that panel updates your saved blueprints to the current format, and updated blueprints cannot be opened by older versions of the game.

How this page is kept

  • Sources: the item titles, subscriber counts and update dates come from Valve’s official Workshop API, captured on 1 September 2026. The grouping and the one-line descriptions are ours — we do not reproduce authors’ own descriptions.
  • Scope: the mod-tagged items inside the Workshop’s top 120 by total subscribers. Small and new mods are not here yet; a mod that climbs into that range gets added on the next check.
  • Checked: at least once a fortnight. The build refuses to publish this page if that check falls more than 30 days behind — which for this page matters more than most, because the useful column is a date.
