Does Big Ambitions Have Multiplayer?

Big Ambitions is single-player only, with no co-op on the roadmap. What Hovgaard has actually said, and the one community mod that adds a shared city.

No. Big Ambitions is single-player only — Steam lists no co-op or multiplayer category, and Hovgaard’s published roadmap through the first DLC contains nothing about it. A community Workshop mod, Going Public, adds a shared city; that is the only multiplayer that exists.

What Hovgaard has said

The studio has spoken about multiplayer exactly once in five years of announcements, and it was before the game existed. In June 2021, with the game still in pre-order, a devlog said that if wishlists kept growing, “the dream of adding co-op multiplayer post-release is suddenly much more realistic”. Nothing since has restated it.

When 0.11 added mod support in June 2026, the announcement mentioned that players had already been making mods “ranging from multiplayer to analytic tools” — an acknowledgement that the community was building it, not a plan to.

The Living Roadmap lists five blocks from 0.11 through the Shanghai DLC. None mentions multiplayer or co-op. The roadmap is explicitly not a complete list of everything coming, so this is not a refusal — it is the absence of a commitment.

The mod

Going Public: Multiplayer for Big Ambitions runs a shared New York that several players build in at once. It is community software: its author updated it the day after 1.0 shipped, it has several thousand subscribers, and it is installed like any other Workshop item. The mods page lists it alongside the libraries it may depend on, and explains why the second most-subscribed mod on the Workshop does nothing on its own.

What a mod cannot do is change what the base game is balanced for. Everything about pricing, rivals and the city’s demand assumes one player.
