Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters picks up four years after Rise of New Champions and follows Tsubasa Ozora from Brazil’s training grounds through the Asian qualifiers to the World Youth Championship, in a story supervised by Yoichi Takahashi. The football is Tamsoft’s one-button duel system: shots charge, dribbles and tackles spend stamina, a ten-level chain builds shot power, and every goal attempt ends in a six-direction guessing game against the keeper.

The roster is the sequel’s headline. Bandai Namco’s own team pages list 128 players across 22 national teams, six clubs, five high schools and the Real Japan 7 — and eleven of the nations were not in the last game.

Launch week has been noisier than the scores suggest. Critics put it at 78 on OpenCritic; Steam players are split at 53% positive, and the loudest complaint is not the football but what was cut: the custom-team builder and offline tournaments of the last game are gone, and online play is ranked matches and private rooms. The verdict page weighs both sides.
