The Sandustry Void Line

Void Seeds are planted, petals plus Moonhop make Void Juice, spent juice leaves Husk — and a Voidgrazer eats the Husk and gives the Juice back for nothing.

The void line is the one that gives your material back for free. Void Juice powers the Void Gun and the Locator, and spending it leaves Void Husk behind — but a Voidgrazer eats Husk and returns the Juice. Catch one and you stop manufacturing.

Sandustry has other loops. Water, Ice and Steam convert into each other endlessly, which the heat page follows all the way round, and the official Energy page says Florinol Official“is not expended in the process, and can therefore be reused indefinitely” — though it has to be re-ignited with a Rocket Launcher each time.

What is different here is who does the returning. The water loop needs heat and vertical space; Florinol needs a shot from a tier 4 weapon. A Voidgrazer needs nothing: it eats the spent form on its own, for free, forever. That is what changes how much of this line you have to build.

The line, end to end

Step How
Void Rift → Void Seeds Research unlock, tier 5, 3,000 Gold
Void Seeds → planted The research tree says they Official“can be planted and refined into void elements”, and stops there
? → Void Petals Void Petal’s own page names Void Flower Soil as its source. That page does not exist
Void Petals + Moonhop → Void Juice The two pixels combined
Void Petals + Redsand → Voidbloom The other branch — see voidbloom
Void Juice → Void Husk Left behind when you fill a tool
Void Husk → Void Juice A Voidgrazer, slowly

Two branches share one input. Petals go to Juice or to Voidbloom depending on what you combine them with, and you will want both — so plan the split before you build either.

Moonhop, and why it will not stay where you put it

Void Juice needs Moonhop, and Moonhop comes out of Mooncrystal: a terrain with 40 HP found “in small outcrops, often deep underground” and “quite tough to break”, though ordinary digging tools do it.

Then it does the thing it is named for:

Moonhop is a ridiculously bouncy material. It can be transported as normal by Conveyor Belts and Launchers but it will bounce!

The official tip is to take care mining it, because you can easily lose track of the material. Treat a Moonhop run as something to contain, not something to leave falling down a shaft.

Combining is a falling problem, not a belt problem

Void Petals are Wisps — density 40, and the wiki says they drift as they fall rather than dropping straight. That is what makes the combine step finicky:

As Void Petal is a light, wispy material care must be taken when combining with Redsand or Moonhop to ensure that the pixels come into direct contact with each other in order for the conversion to take place.

The Redsand page states the consequence outright for its own branch — the two pixels “must fall on top of one another and cannot be pushed together by Conveyor Belts to combine.” Build a drop, not a junction.

What Void Juice is actually for

Two tools. The Locator is a tier 5 unlock at 3,000 Gold; where the Void Gun sits is not published at all:

Tool What it does Unlock
Locator “Fill it with Void Juice to scan for hidden alien artifacts” Tier 5, 3,000 Gold
Void Gun “Uses Void Juice to excavate the ground” — a powered hard-material excavation tool Not published

The Void Gun’s cost is genuinely unknown rather than merely missing from this page: its own wiki entry writes the figure as Tier ???, ??? Gold. It also does not appear in the research listing.

Filling either one is what produces Void Husk — “Void Husk is left behind when you fill tools with Void Juice.”

The Voidgrazer is the point

A Voidgrazer is a critter you find in the wild and move with the Corraller. Its own page states the loop plainly:

When Void Juice is used, Void Husk is left behind. The Voidgrazer will consume that Void Husk and return the Void Juice to you so that you don’t have to endlessly produce more juice.

It is slow — the page says “slowly consume” — so this is a standing arrangement rather than an on-demand converter. Park it where your spent Husk collects, which means near wherever you refill tools, not near the petals.

Worth knowing that Husk is not fragile: density 45, a solid, and Launchable, so you can move it to the Voidgrazer rather than moving the Voidgrazer to it. More on the critters themselves in Sandustry critters.

Separate what the line needs from what it can also feed.

Required, if you want the loop this page is about:

Node Cost Why you need it
Void Rift Tier 5, 3,000 Gold The Void Seeds the whole line starts from
Corraller Tier 4, 1,250 Gold The only way to move a Voidgrazer to where your Husk collects

That is 4,250 Gold for the recycling half, and the Corraller is the part people forget — a Voidgrazer you cannot move is a Voidgrazer sitting wherever you found it.

It is only half. Void Husk exists because something spent Void Juice, so a loop with nothing consuming Juice has nothing to recycle. You need one of the two consumers below as well, which makes the real floor 7,250 Gold if you take the Locator — or unknown if you go by the Void Gun, whose price has never been published.

Optional, and where most of the money goes:

Node Cost What it gives you
Locator Tier 5, 3,000 Gold Artifact scanning — and one of the two ways to spend Juice
Flux Emanator Tier 5, 2,000 Gold Voidbloom into Fluxite
Recall Shard Tier 5, 4,000 Gold Teleport to a recall portal, powered by Voidbloom

The Void Gun is the other way to spend Juice and has no row here, because its cost is not published anywhere — its own entry writes the figure as Tier ???, ??? Gold. If it turns out to be cheaper than the Locator’s 3,000, it is the cheaper way to close the loop; nobody can say yet.

Those are the nodes’ own prices; none of them lists a prerequisite. Whether you can reach tier 5 at all is a separate question — research is gated by more than gold.

What is not published

The official pages leave real gaps here, and they are worth knowing before you plan around a number you found elsewhere:

  • Void Juice has no density figure. Its page records the range 50<?<75 rather than a value, and leaves the matter type blank entirely.
  • Void Seed has a density (30) and nothing else — no source, no process, no prose.
  • Void Flower Soil has no page at all, though Void Petal’s own entry names it as the source.
  • No quantities anywhere on this line. How many petals a seed yields, how much Juice a combine produces, how much a tool takes to fill, how fast a Voidgrazer works — none of it is recorded.
