Every plot detail on this page sits in closed spoiler sections, so you can open only what you want. The spoiler-free short version: the one big choice in Chapter 13 doesn’t change the ending, there is a post-credits scene worth staying for, and no sequel has been announced as of September 15, 2026.

This explanation is built from the game as documented in several independent full walkthroughs and plot write-ups, and from what Asobo’s developers have said in interviews. Where those sources describe a scene differently, we give the version they share. For a spoiler-free overview instead, read the character guide or the play-order guide.

The ending, explained

SpoilersThe finale, the Minotaur and the post-credits scene (also spoils Requiem)Show

Where things stand before the finale

  • Why Sophia has visions. As a child she was held at a convent where nuns injected her with a substance. Ever since, she has seen fragments of the island’s ancient past, and the injection left an infection in her arm, marked by blackened veins.
  • Theseus isn’t who the myth says. The warrior you play in the Minoan sequences is Ariadne, King Minos’ daughter, fighting in disguise as Theseus.
  • Leni is lost. The creature’s corruption takes her during the chaos in the labyrinth.
  • Irene is the traitor. Faro’s lieutenant sold out the crew. At the end of Chapter 11 she strikes Faro with a dagger, and Sophia beats her in the fight that follows. Faro, badly wounded, stays behind to hold the mechanism that keeps a beam of light shining into the labyrinth.

Who the Minotaur really is

The creature at the heart of the labyrinth was once Asterion, Minos’ son and Ariadne’s brother. He was afflicted by the Macula, and Minos locked him in the labyrinth and turned him into a legend: the Minotaur, a monster for warriors to prove themselves against in deadly contests. Ariadne was his protector. She fought as “Theseus” to help her brother and turned against her father, and Minos killed her for it. When Daedalus shut off the labyrinth’s light, nothing held Asterion back any more.

So “what is this creature?” has a double answer. The creature that hunts Sophia in the dark is the corruption spreading out from him: it recoils from light, and in the final fight it pours out of the Minotaur statue. What sits at the center is Asterion’s own body, on his corrupted throne.

It’s the same curse as in Innocence and Requiem, in a form the series hasn’t shown before: no rat swarms. Asobo’s lead writer Carol-Ann Bañuls said as much before launch: “The macula here has a different form, it’s new for us.” She also told CGMagazine that the team “interpreted [the myth] in our own way to link it to the lore of our universe.”

What happens in the last two chapters

Chapter 13, As One. At the labyrinth’s entrance Sophia finds Leni, twisted by the corruption. You can end her suffering with the sphere’s light or walk away. Ariadne’s spirit then guides Sophia through the maze with threads of light while she opens its gates one by one. At the center stands a giant Minotaur statue. Sophia turns a huge light-beam weapon on it, breaks it open and burns away the corruption until she reaches Asterion himself. Ending his suffering also frees Sophia from the infection in her arm.

Chapter 14, What Remains. It’s an epilogue with no fights or puzzles. Faro is gone from where she left him; Sophia follows his blood trail to his body and leaves a crown with him as a farewell. She then walks off the island while the credits roll.

The post-credits scene

Years later, an older Sophia finishes telling this story to Amicia de Rune. Amicia wonders whether the nuns who experimented on Sophia belonged to the Order. Then she asks how Sophia met Arnaud, the warrior who becomes an important figure in Requiem. Sophia says that’s a long story for another time.

It links Resonance straight to Requiem: Sophia is the Sea Scorpion who sails with Amicia and Hugo in that game, and Amicia’s question points at the part of her life Resonance leaves out. The cured arm also fits the healthy captain Requiem players already know.

Does the Chapter 13 choice change the ending?

No. Whether you end Leni’s suffering or leave her, the story, the ending and every later cutscene stay the same, and there’s no trophy for either choice. It’s there for the moment itself.

Will there be a sequel?

Nothing has been announced, and the press releases from Focus’s parent company, Pullup Entertainment, don’t mention the series’ future. Here is what Asobo’s developers have said on the record, in order:

Date Who, where What they said
June 8, 2026 Carol-Ann Bañuls, lead writer, TheSixthAxis On more Amicia and Hugo: “I can never say never, but it was time to see things from a different perspective in the universe.”
August 20, 2026 David Dedeine, Asobo co-founder, Xbox Wire On why the team didn’t make a numbered sequel: “it was pretty clear that an actual ‘A Plague Tale 3’ was off the table.”
September 1, 2026 Bañuls, Game Rant “We can never say never… So I don’t know what the future holds.”
September 1, 2026 Valérian Robert, lead level designer, Game Rant Asked whether “Legacy” is a framework for more stories: “We’ll see about that. We can’t really talk about a framework for now.”
September 10, 2026 Robert, CGMagazine On where the series goes next: “We’ll see. We don’t have any information on that, so we’ll see what the future holds.”

Read together: Asobo ruled out a direct A Plague Tale 3 about Amicia and Hugo when it chose to make Resonance, and the team won’t commit to anything else yet. Nothing in Resonance’s own ending counts as an announcement either.

Ending FAQ

Is there a post-credits scene?

Yes. Stay through the credits once you finish Chapter 14.

Does the Chapter 13 choice change the ending?

No. Both options lead to the same ending and the same later cutscenes, and neither has a trophy.

SpoilersSpoiler FAQ: Faro, Leni and TheseusShow

Does Faro die in Resonance?

Yes. Irene’s dagger wounds him at the end of Chapter 11, he keeps the light on the labyrinth while Sophia goes in, and she finds his body in Chapter 14.

She’s lost either way. The corruption takes her in the labyrinth, and the Chapter 13 choice only decides whether Sophia ends her suffering or leaves her to it.

Who is Theseus in Resonance?

Ariadne, Minos’ daughter, disguised as Theseus to fight in the labyrinth contests and save her brother.

Where do I go for the chapters themselves?

The walkthrough covers all 14 chapters without these spoilers.
