Yes. Resonance is a prequel set in 1334, about 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem. You do not need to play Innocence or Requiem first: Asobo designed Sophia’s story to stand on its own.

Resonance is the third released game but the earliest medieval story. Its Minoan sequences sit far earlier still and are presented as echoes connected to Sophia’s journey, not as another game in the play order.
Do you need to play the first two games?
No. The official FAQ calls the premise accessible without prior knowledge, and the core mystery introduces the ideas it needs. A new player will understand Sophia, Leni, Minotaur’s Island and the immediate stakes.
Playing Requiem first changes the texture, not the comprehension. You already know the older Sophia as the Sea Scorpion and recognize why references to the Macula carry weight. You may also notice how Requiem’s closing imagery prepared the ground for this story.
